Robishongo is a non-profit cultural and educational organization which was formed in 2019 by a group of five friends, gathered on a sunny winter afternoon over a cup of golden tea and talked about a dream of starting an organization to promote the ideals of universalism and humanism as exemplified by the life and works of the Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore, who was the first Non-European Nobel prize winner in literature, for his book of poems, “Geetanjali“ in 1913. "Tagore was not only an immensely versatile poet; he was also a great short story writer , novelist, playwright, essayist and composer of songs, as well as a talented painter whose pictures, with their mixture of representation and abstraction are only now beginning to the acclaim that they have long deserved.” writes Amartya Sen, another Nobel prize winner of 1998.
The mission of this group is to promote the understanding of Rabindranath’s highly prolific ideas and philosophy and his timeless creations through music, dance, drama and other germane activities such as art exhibits, lectures, symposiums and quality films based on his works by renowned directors.
Robishongo envisions creating opportunities for all Tagore enthusiasts and encouraging them to join the group and together take the journey to explore one of the greatest minds of the early years of the 20th century.
